knitting again

In the headlines...

We have a trio of Californians! Here's a shot of our buck in the cage that my darling built. We (think we) bred the does this weekend. The second doe took I'm almost certain, the first...guess we'll now a month from now! A learning experience to be sure.

Even though the weather is still brutal, I have brought the knitting back out. September is looming, so I somehow feel cooler and able to hold a little wool again. I've started another sock- this time I'm using Pony Pearls dpns. (The jury is out-won't know for another few inches) The yarn is more Sockotta. A little boring to me since I just finished a pair of Sockotta so...I've pulled out the Emma shawl and worked 6 rows. This time next year, I should have enough progess to post a new picture.

The Zoo

We took a trip Monday to the Riverbanks Zoo. This was our first visit and we enjoyed it immensely. T couldn't wait to see the zebras and J was eager to see the lions. It really is a beautiful place.

We saw the bears...

And the Lorrakeet aviary...

And about the time when T began asking to go home-we finished up the tour and the kids had ice cream.

In other news, Mom's socks are done at last and the box is headed out the door. I feel fairly certain that she has long forgotten that I ever promised her any socks. So, see? The surprise factor was recaptured after all.

Super short

Some socks are going out in the mail! I am casting off my mother's anklets this very minute. I have a book to read before I can send it off. Sounds weird, I know. When her house flooded, she lost a favorite book- A Lantern in Her Hand. I saw it in a catalog and ordered it for her-gotta read it first, naturally!
